ABOUT RICHARD HOKENSON

Richard Hokenson founded Hokenson & Company in May 2002. Hokenson & Company is an independent consulting firm specializing in the application of demographics to economic and financial market forecasting.

Mr. Hokenson developed and continues to maintain a unique value-added approach that appeals to leading consumer companies as well as financial services companies. He is acknowledged as an important producer of ideas for client strategy. Over the last two decades, he has built up a loyal following among most accounts in all parts of the world, working with institutions of all types and across all asset classes. His demographic/economic insights are greatly sought after by Chief Investment Officers, Senior Portfolio Managers, Asset Allocation Committees, Boards of Directors of Financial Services companies as well as Boards of Trustees of State and Private Pension plans. He has also made numerous presentations to their clients as well as being a speaker at conferences around the world.

Mr. Hokenson began his impressive career in 1973 as senior economist at Data Resources, Inc. after which he held the same position at Merrill Lynch Economics from 1976 to 1977. In 1978, he joined Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ) where he pioneered the application of demographics to economic and financial marketing forecasting. In 1995, he was promoted to be the Chief Economist of DLJ. After the merger with Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) in November 2000, Richard Hokenson became the Director of Demographic Research where he continued his responsibility for analysis and forecasting of global demographic trends and their associated economic and investment implications.

He holds an undergraduate degree in economics with honors from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan. Mr. Hokenson did his Ph.D. research at New York University.

He is a trustee of the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Hokenson is also a member of the Executive Committee of PRB and chairs the Investment Committee. He is also a member of the Society of Labor Economists, the Population Association of America and the American Economic Association.

Besides material published by DLJ and CSFB, his written works include “Demographic Trends and the Impact on Municipal Finance” published in the Municipal Finance Journal (Winter 1994) and “The Demographics of Global Investing” published in The Global Guide to Investing (Financial Times Press, September 1995).

Joining him in this effort is Charles LaRosa. Before joining Hokenson & Company, Charles was an Economist at Credit Suisse First Boston. His work focused on the analysis and forecasting of global demographic trends and their associated economic and investment implications. Charles joined CSFB through the merger with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in October 2000. At DLJ, he worked in economic research for two years, tracking the U.S. economy. Prior to DLJ, he worked in private banking at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. and was a staff assistant at the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress. Charles holds a B.A. in Political Science from Catholic University and an M.B.A. from George Washington University.
