Key Demographic Information for Each Country in the World

In the past, we published a series of regional reports that focused largely on the demographic underpinnings of economic development. The core of those reports was an extensive display of the key demographic and selected economic indicators for many countries. That coverage has now been expanded to include every country in the world and is available in a user-friendly manner via this website. More significantly, the internet now allows us to offer the ability for the user to directly compare two countries, a country versus a region, or two regions. When you are interested in viewing what is available as well as getting a first hand feel of the functionality, please click the PREVIEW tab above. As before, we will continue to provide support for special data requests.

Written Reports

We continue to maintain our unique value-added approach that we pioneered in the application of demographics to economic and financial market forecasting. Besides the text for our regional reports included on this website, we have also just published a study entitled “The United States Is Not the Next Japan”. We are currently working on the issue of “Is There a Housing Bubble in the US?” All of the analysis that we have seen to date on this issue has ignored the ongoing shifts in the demographic mosaic, shifts that are critical to understanding the real fundamentals of housing. Following the housing piece, we intend to publish a comprehensive study on China. In our view, much of the current confusion regarding consumer markets in China is dispelled with a proper incorporation of its radically different demographics. Relative to current expectations, China’s development will result in many unanticipated surprises.

Upcoming Developments

In many ways, this website is the culmination of my long-held desire to provide a one stop demographically focused resource site for financial as well as nonfinancial clients around the world. But I view this current site as a beginning not an end. Besides new reports, our plans for expansion include.

Ongoing value-added insights on the consumer, consumer-related activities (e.g. housing) and labor markets. This was a critical component of my analysis in my role as Chief Economist at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. Current and ongoing changes in the demographic mosaic have been a major reason for my continued optimism regarding consumer spending. At least initially, this analysis will focus principally on the US. This will be a real time display that is refreshed as new information is released. As time and resources permit, we will consider extending this analysis to other countries of interest.

A comprehensive listing of research published elsewhere that focuses on relevant demographic issues. These demographic issues would include but would not be limited to the impact of aging populations on asset returns, health care, valuations, and industry trends. It will include microeconomic as well as macroeconomic developments. The sources of this research will be the leading academics in the field as well as the IMF, World Bank, OECD, etc.

A wide-ranging listing of other websites that provide more detailed or highly specific information on specific countries or regions. This capability will easily allow the user to obtain information beyond what is displayed in our coverage.

As always, we remain committed to client service. If you have ideas on how the information on this website can be made more useful or suggestions for added concepts or materials, please feel free to CONTACT us.
